6 Ways To Veganize Gameday

September 3, 2018

We are about to enter one of the best times of year.... Football season!

Football and food go hand-in-hand. Like peanut butter and jelly. Tator tots and fry sauce. Peas and carrots. Cheech and Chong!!

It's a ritual that is deeply ingrained in our culture and just a great time of year to socialize and have fun with our friends.

But, gameday spreads can be flooded with animal based options that are highly processed, loaded with sugar, and high in saturated fat and cholesterol.

Like you, I also want to enjoy time with friends, watching the games, and indulging in delicious food, but I also want to stay healthy while doing it!

So, to help us all out a bit, I've compiled a list of my top 6 game day foods...vegan style!

Cauliflower hot wings with vegan ranch:

Don't miss out on those buffalo wings this season! Grab yourself a bag of the frozen tempura cauliflower from Trader Joe's, a bottle of vegan ranch, and your favorite buffalo sauce (Ditch the sauce that comes with the tempura cauliflower, you wont be needing it! Unless you'd rather have that, then by all means, knock yourself out!). Follow the instructions on the back of the cauliflower bag. Once they are cooked and crisp, combine them with your buffalo sauce in a large bowl and toss until they are coated. Serve alongside your ranch and enjoy!

BBQ jackfruit sliders: These jackfruit sliders are quick, easy, and sure to keep everyone coming back for more! You can't have a football party without them!

Instant Pot quinoa and bean chili: One of my most favorite appliances is the Instant Pot. Being able to cook dry beans in 30-40 minutes has been a life changer for me. Needless to say, I've been utilizing it as much as possible! What's even more exciting is that chili will be ready to go for any football fest in less than 20 minutes! You can't beat that!

Hummus and veggie sticks: Hummus is a staple for me every day of the week, because of its simplicity and versatility, so it's no wonder it made my list of favorites! Simply slice up your favorite veggies (cucumber, bell peppers, celery, broccoli, or carrots), throw out a bowl of chips or pita chips, and dig in!

Sweet potato and black bean burgers: What's a BBQ without burgers? The best part about these is that they are completely guilt free!

Jackfruit, bean, and cheese  quesadilla's: Another use for that super versatile and holy jackfruit! Simmer and shred, just as you would in the BBQ jackfruit slider recipe, but season with a pack of taco seasoning instead! Load your tortilla with your favorite vegan cheese shreds (I use SoDelicious), pinto or black beans, and your seasoned jackfruit. Pair with the easy creamy guacamole or some pico de gallo!
