Building Your Own Buddha Bowl

July 25, 2018

So, what the heck is a Buddha bowl anyway? Well, a Buddha bowl is a nutrient dense bowl of goodness, often filled with a variety of grains, beans, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds.

The combinations are literally endless, which means you get to create and make your bowl as fun and vibrant as you wish! And remember, the first rule of building a Buddha bowl is to make it as COLORFUL as possible because, well...is it really a Buddha bowl unless you photograph it and share it with us all on Instagram? I don't think so!

Below you will find my 5 steps to building a Buddha bowl. Again, make it fun, play with different colors and textures, and be sure to report back!

Happy Buddha-building!

Step One - Pick your base! Whether you opt for sweet potatoes, mixed greens, rice, quinoa, or grilled vegetables, you are sure to pack in the nutrients. Also keep in mind that whatever you don't choose as a base can be used as an additional topping!

Step Two - Add some protein! There are many options for plant based protein including tempeh, lentils, tofu, beans and falafel! Feel free to add several from this category because not only do they provide protein but they're packed full of a bunch of wonderful nutrients your body craves.

Step 3 - Include good fats: Chia seeds, avocado, nuts, seeds, and olives all provide a great source of fat! Again, mix it up and play with flavors!

Step 4 - Make it colorful: This is where it REALLY gets fun! Start adding reds, greens, purples and oranges via fruit and vegetables to ensure you get a variety of nutrients!

Step 5 - Get saucy: Depending on your combination, sauce or dressing options include BBQ sauce, balsamic, lemon tahini dressing, or the vegan dressing options from Trader Joe's. You don't HAVE to use a dressing either. Sometimes bowls are better without being drizzled!
